Profhilo

What is Profhilo?

Profhilo is a completely new product that uses patented technologies engineered for ‘skin remodelling’. IBSA makes it in Italy from hyaluronic acid (HA), which is found in many Dermal Fillers.  However, rather than filling lines, Profhilo promotes collagen and elastin growth to reduce skin laxity.

Thanks to the unique characteristics of Profhilo, improving skin laxity is easily obtained in only two sessions, with a 1-month interval, and only five injection points on each side of the face. Profhilo is suitable for practically anyone, men and women, from 30 years old and with no upper age limit.

Profhilo is a licensed medical device with a European CE Mark. The treatment is temporary as the HA completely breaks down within the skin, leaving no trace. Profhilo was the first BDDE-free stabilised injectable HA-based product for treating skin laxity.

With one of the highest concentrations of HA on the market (64mg/2ml) it is not only boosting and hydrating the skin but also remodels the ageing and sagging tissue.

How does Profhilo work?

After treatment, Profhilo remains in the skin for around 28 days and slowly releases HA into the skin. This action stimulates the production of 4 different types of collagen and elastin.
The simulation results in significant tissue improvement reducing sagging tissue and signs of ageing, while the hyaluronic acid hydrates the skin.
Therefore we cannot say that Profhilo is a skin booster as it also has a significant tightening/lifting effect on the tissue.

Can you combine Profhilo with other treatments?

Profhilo delivers great results as a treatment on its own or in combination with other aesthetic treatments.

We recommend you avoid other injectable treatments 2 weeks before and 2 weeks after the treatment.

You can have Botulinum Toxin treatment at the same time; otherwise, we recommend a gap of two weeks prior to or 2 weeks after a Profhilo treatment.

Microdermabrasion, chemical peel and IPL can be performed 2 weeks pre or post-treatment.

For Fractional resurfacing, we recommend a 3–4 weeks gap between treatments.

Profhilo treatment is not recommended immediately following other routine medical procedures.
For dental procedures, we recommended leaving at least 2 weeks pre or post-treatment.

What happens during the treatment?

During the treatment, we inject the product using fine needles in five specific points on the face that Profhilo called the Bio Aesthetic Points (BAPs).

The BAP technique is the optimum method for performing the treatment. It makes the treatment effective and simple, reducing the chance of pain, bruising or haematoma at the injection site.

Once injected, the product starts spreading due to the high concentration of HA and its cohesive nature.

It flows and distributes itself evenly without resistance integrating within your skin’s existing tissue.

Dr Johnsons will advise you to follow her Profhilo Aftercare Information found here.

When does it start to work?

Some people see improvements in their skin a few weeks after their first treatment. If you are going to get a good result, you will normally notice an improvement when you return for your second treatment 4-5 weeks later.

Dr Johnson will take photos to assess your response before your second treatment and discuss your options.

How long do the results of Profhilo last?

You should notice the results of the treatment – increased firmness, elasticity and overall improved quality of your skin for around six months.

However, other factors can affect the results, such as your age, lifestyle, and skin’s natural ageing process.

How many treatments will I need?

For most patients, we recommend an initial course of two treatment sessions, with an interval of one month between sessions. Some patients need three Profhilo treatments to achieve optimum results.

We recommend top-up and maintenance sessions approximately every six months, depending on your body’s response to the initial treatment.

Can a Profhilo treatment cause side effects?

The treatment causes bumps on the skin which usually go down within 3 to 14 hours.

Redness, itching, discolouration and tenderness at the injection site may occur, but these are usually mild and usually fade quickly.

Bruising can occur and may last several days, sometimes a bit longer.

Is Profhilo suitable for everyone?

It is suitable for anyone looking to improve signs of ageing skin and their skin’s hydration.

Dr Johnson finds patients with older, more dehydrated wrinkly skin tend to see the most visible results from the treatment.

When is treatment not recommended?

Dr Johnson will not recommend the treatment if you are:

  • hypersensitive to hyaluronic acid
  • pregnant
  • breastfeeding

How much is a Profhilo treatment?

A single 2ml treatment is £350; however, we have special offers from time to time.
